Breaks from our every day lives and work are needed from time to time. Sometimes we go on weekend getaways, vacations or staycations. These were all invented to save our sanity. They are much needed after long months at work and daily routines. Today I will be covering staycations and why do a staycation instead of a “real” vacation. Some of those reasons could be related to finances, or not having enough days off work. And other times it could just be as simple as wanting to stay local and not need a vacation from your vacation before heading back to work.

This is your time off!
When planning a vacation you usually have to do your research. Trying to figure out where to go, where to stay, for how long and what’s the budget. The same goes for staycations but at a local level. You need to treat your precious time off as what it is-time off from work!
You may be against the idea of a staycation if you have never done it. We love staycations. It allows us to create memories discovering new parts of our beautiful state. Staying local does not require too many days off and does not break the bank.
Have a plan.
So how do you start? Like I said, treat it like a real vacation! Have a start date and end date. Have an itinerary. Involve your family in this process. Involving the kids is a great idea. It makes them not only feel in the loop but will have them looking forward to their time off when not having a “real” vacation. We have a family meeting, and have our kids tell us what they would like to do. I usually write down everyone’s ideas and try to pick at least one idea for each of our kids. That way they are all involved.
Staycation Ideas
Movies anyone?
Go to the movies! We love going to the moving and going to the theater a couple times while on staycation is the best thing ever. The movies are a place where we can keep our three kids and ourselves “off radar” aka no cell phones. It’s just us, the movie and the popcorn. Also, by going during the week not only do you have the movie theater to your self but the tickets are also dirt cheap.
Activities
- Bowling
- Skating Rink
- Miniature Golfing
- Arcade
- Go Kart
- Paint Balling/Laser Tag
You can find almost all of these activities in Groupon for a great discount. It’s a great place to look into if you want to stay within your budget. If you have never used Groupon, you’re missing out.
Eating is a Pleasure…
We love to eat, I mean who doesn’t? Although eating out can be costly, we always plan to either eat out or go out for dessert. On the days that we do not eat out we eat at home, but we splurge a little. Instead of the usual weekday quick meal I make a special meal. Usually the kids or the hubbies favorite. Or the families favorite like Enchiladas!
Our Staycation
When we have staycations we always plan to stay away at a hotel for a night or two. It all depends on our budget and how far we travel to. We live in Florida and our favorite place to visit is the oldest city in the U.S. We have been going to St. Augustine for several years, and this year we made sure we included it to our staycation itinerary.
“Sometimes You Will Never Know The Value Of A Moment Until It Becomes Memory”
Dr. Seuss
It does not matter if you travel far or near as long as you’re doing it with the ones you love. The memories created will be cherished for life.
I would love to hear what kind of activities you and your family do on your staycations.
